Description

This is an exciting time to join The Pensions Regulator (TPR). Our new corporate strategy outlines a bold and challenging vision of how pensions regulation should evolve to keep pace with a change in the scale and nature of the industry. We are at the start of that journey. Last year we established a new Strategy, Policy and Analysis (SPA) directorate as TPR’s creative engine bringing together strategy, policy, external risk and analysis to evolve our regulatory framework and to support innovation that delivers better outcomes for savers. Across TPR, including SPA, we are committed to fostering a regulatory environment that encourages and supports innovation in the interests of savers. We take a flexible, collaborative approach—co-designing regulation with industry and always keeping savers’ needs at the heart of what we do.

We are seeking an experienced and visionary leader to join our executive team as Director of Strategy and Communications.  This pivotal role will lead the development and delivery of the organisation’s strategy while also shaping its strategic direction through a unified communications function that spans public affairs, strategic engagement and internal engagement. The successful candidate will play a key role in positioning the organisation as a trusted voice in the pensions industry, driving clarity, confidence, and credibility across all audiences. This role will sit alongside and be complementary to the separate Pensions Reform Division, which will provide dedicated support for DWP’s ongoing legislative reform programme. In addition to leading on organisational strategy and communications functions, this role will have oversight of the wider strategic considerations relating to respectively the development of ESG obligations and the opportunities for innovation in the UK pensions sector. The postholder will also represent TPR externally, influencing and shaping the broader pensions and regulatory landscape through thought leadership, engagement with industry stakeholders, and advocacy for innovation in the interests of savers.

We welcome applications from candidates with senior communications experience in public policy development, strategy, and influencing roles, ideally within government and/or the pensions sector. You will have proven success in influencing government stakeholders and a deep understanding of the regulatory environment. With strong strategic capabilities, you will engage effectively at all levels of the organisation, ensuring that collaboration and influence are at the heart of the way you work. We need inspirational leaders who can demonstrate experience of taking people with them on a journey of transformational change. Culture is as important as capability, and you will demonstrate a values set in line with those we have developed at TPR.

Everyone at TPR plays an important role in helping to keep more than £2trn of savings safe. We’re committed to bringing people into TPR who are ready to make a difference and put UK savers at the heart of what we do.
